Pre University Seminar 2007
1 month since i last blog. been really very busy for this whole month. with council stuffs, with pre u seminar.yup. Pre University Seminar 2007 is officially over last friday, 25/5/07. It was one hell of an experience. A once in a lifetime experience. About a month ago, i was made a cluster leader along with Weiliang, Shee Kwang, Weilin and Izzah. We were all set for a role that we have not tried before. It is different. Way different from a clan master in orientation. Initially, all of us thought that cluster leader was a slack role and we have nothing much to do. Well, i guess we were wrong. We were not only busy from day 1 but from day 0(sunday), we were busy already. Just when we thought that we as cluster leaders were quite redundant, as days passed, we became more and more involved in the set up of Pre-U seminar. It is different in a sense that this is a major nationwide event. Instead of running the show ourselves and leading a group of new pioneers, all of the SLOs became the backstage crew and we were leading a group of 601 strong students from all jcs, ip schools, poly and MI. Its really a whole new experience. SLOs were the backstage crew as we were all ensuring that the Pre-U Seminar runs smoothly. In fact, all of us including the teachers play a major role as the backstage crew. The two leading teachers Mr David Chia and Ms Ng May Ling + Cluster Leaders all slept late and woke up earliest as well. Life's been quite tough for these short 5 days.

With all the organising + briefing for participants in day 1 started it off pretty alright. Just that my loud voice sent out the wrong messages to the participants as they thought that im v fierce when im shouting. lol. actually im not fierce. its just tat im giving instructions to alot of people and i really need to project my voice. but still it is not gd enough ya. so after the 1st day, we all sat down and discuss a system for the next few days onwards. Yup and well done, because the system really work and i dun even have to shout at all, which was a really good thing. I still remember the 1st day when the participants came back from their learning journey. For my side at canteen 13, me and shee kwang kept on giving briefing instead of briefing the slos and let them brief. Weilin and Izzah at canteen 14 do the opposite of us and let slos brief which was in a sense better. well i guess different people have different working style. And it is gd that we have different working style and yet we can still work well with each other. It is really another way for us to work as well. It is how we apply different working style to adapt to the situation. Each of us (CLs) provide a different view to the situations and through this we can find a better solution.
As the 2nd day came, i have to shout again. which is in the morning and i received a few negative feedbacks. yup so aft that a system was in place and no longer were there negative feedbacks. All were happy once again:). Im glad that all this solutions were thought of asap by the teachers and CLs. For the next few days its all fun and work. Though we CLs gave the slos some timely reminders on the program schedules, i guess we were all glad that the slos respond very very well from the 3rd day onwards. Everything was very smooth and they were having fun as well.
We were all learning. Learning something different. We all learnt from each other. Be it SLOs, CLs or Teachers, we were all teaching each other new things that some of us had never heard of and done before. That is wads so amazing about pre u seminar. I still remember that the meetings between CLs and Teachers were all so fun and memorable. I will never forget those few meetings. Tired we all are yet we still managed to have fun. Especially during the pre-u seminar, the CLs will always have Izzah the "bimbo" to cheer us up coz she is just so funny. Then we have weiliang, shee kwang and weilin to play and crap with. CLs life though may be bored at certain parts of the pre-u sem but we will never forget the bonds we forged among CLs and among our own clusters. Then we have the SLC teachers to play and crap with as well. Surely the two teacher that were always around with CLs were Mr Chia and Ms Ng. Other teachers that joined us like Ms Leong, Mr Tong, Mdm Shafa, Ms Lim Yian, Ms Xiao, Ms Nura and many others, we all had fun together. Even though we only know each other for a short while but yet we still had fun. Ms Ng also taught us many things. It is really a learning journey for all of us
well many knows that Mr Chia is leaving PJC. Pre-U sem is the last event for him in PJC. Yes Mr Chia is a great teacher. Not only does he teach maths well but he also lead well. You can really learn alot from him. And i learnt alot from him. We gave him a farewell party on the last day of pre u sem(friday). It was really an emotional 1. I cried when Mr Chia came to give some farewell speech. He is really one of the best teacher i have ever met. To me he really got the passion and committment to whatever he does. Passion to teach and lead. This is the kind of gd example all shld be following. And im glad that im in pre-u sem to learn leading and organisation skills from him. Furthermore, he is kind and understanding. It is really a pity that he is leaving PJC. Well i hereby wish Mr Chia all the best in the next school he goes to.
Mr Chia thought many of us this line: "Look at what u want, Look at what u have"
It is really a line that not only apply to maths but to many other things in life as well.
Thanks Mr Chia for all the things u have done for us so far:)

Thanks Teachers and Cluster Leaders

Finally, Thank You To Everybody for making Pre-University Seminar 2007 a huge success:)
